Lenta Expands Its Presence in Moscow Region
St. Petersburg, Russia, 26 February 2021: Lenta IPJSC (MOEX & LSE: LNTA), one of the largest retail chains in Russia, today announces that it has concluded a deal with X5 Retail Group to acquire the Karusel hypermarket in Dmitrov. The Karusel store will be transformed into a Lenta hypermarket and will boost Lenta’s position in the strategically important Moscow region. The deal also is in-line with the transformation process of the Karusel hypermarket format announced by X5 in September of 2019.
The total area of the hypermarket is 6.2 thousand square meters with a selling space of approximately 3.5 thousand square meters. The store will be reconstructed to meet different clients’ needs and fulfill various customer journeys, in accordance with the latest requirements that ensure a safe environment for its customers and employees.
Lenta is the largest hypermarket chain in Russia and the country’s third largest retail chain. The Company was founded in 1993 in St. Petersburg. Lenta operates 253 hypermarkets in 89 cities across Russia and 140 supermarkets in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and the Central region with a total of approximately 1.5 mn sq.m of selling space. The average Lenta hypermarket store has selling space of approximately 5,500 sq.m. The average Lenta supermarket store has selling space of approximately 800 sq.m. The Company operates twelve distribution centres.
